Yongnuo News: YN460-II and YN560 Now With Metal Foot
The Yongnuo YN 460 Mark II design has been updated in one detail as reports indicate: YN-460 Mark II now comes with a metal foot!
Thank you very much speedlights.net reader Albert for reporting about the Yongnuo YN-460-II now shipping with metal base plate on the plastic foot! You can see a photo of it below.
For comparison, you can see here the now “old” flash foot design:
The Yongnuo 560 now also has a metal flash foot. Huge thanks to photographer j-pang for the comparison picture here:
Yongnuo 560 Real World Guide Number Table
Flash guide number for the Yongnuo 560 was measured before. What’s new now is a full guide number table with the manufacturer specs versus the Speedlights.net test results – see here below; go for more information to the YN 560 review test results page.
Guide number tables for other models of camera flash can be found in the respective reviews, for example for Yongnuo 460 Mark II, Nikon SB-600, or Nissin Di622 Mark II. The new Nikon SB-700 will soon be added with full guide number test results, too.
Yongnuo YN-560 Speedlite Review (Manual Flash)
This is the in-depth review for the Yongnuo YN-560 speedlite, a manual-mode only flash designed for photographers who don’t need automatic exposure control.
Introduced in the summer of 2010 as an upgraded model of the YN-460 Mark II and improved in many ways, it is well worth the around $65 to $75 it costs on eBay or amazon.

Today the new and greatly improved manual-mode speedlite YN-560 has been finally listed in the manufacturer store “hkyongnuophotoequipment” on eBay. Big advantage is on top of buying direct from Yongnuo that they offer a 1 year warranty. The review is almost done too and will be posted here within the next 3 days!

Here are now some results from the Yongnuo 560 testing while the full review still needs a bit longer. This quick post is looking at a couple of aspects only.
Recycle time
Flash recycle time can only be described as extremely short. I averages at 1.5 seconds with eneloop NiMH cells and 3.0 seconds with Duracall alkalines, and this is the average of 10 shots fired in a row:
Unpacking YN-560
My new Yongnuo speedlite YN-560 has arrived! I’m still writing on the review, but here is an ‘unboxing video’ as a little appetizer.

Yongnuo YN-560 vs YN-460-II (Manual Flashes)
Update from November 16, 2011: expected for December release is a new, upgraded YN560-II model with LCD display and other upgrades. Learn more.
The Yongnuo YN-560 as the first model within the 56x line is a fully manual flashgun – like the 460 and the 460 II. After looking at the manual mode operation of YN560 and Canon 580EX II this post here now compares the newcomer with the existing top model, the YN-460-2.
Yongnuo YN-560 vs Canon 580EX II
With the 56x line Yongnuo has just announced a new line of flash units, positioned above the existing 46x line. It is rumored that the 46x flash units will remain in production, and I hope and believe this holds true (this is confirmed as of early 2011).
Update from November 16, 2011: expected for December release is a new, upgraded YN560-II model with LCD display and other upgrades that will be replacing the current YN-560. Learn more.

As just reported by lightingrumors.com, the Yongnuo corporation has another new design in the pipeline: the new Yongnuo YN560. This is the successor of the YN-460-II: strong guide number, rather fast recycle, the 2 optical slave modes, but now with manual zoom from 24-105 (probably 18mm with wide angle diffuser) and a PC port. It is looking like a great strobist flashgun!
