Yongnuo YN-565EX for Nikon Available Now!
Finally, the long-awaited new Yongnuo speedlite for Nikon is here and available for purchase from the manufacturer store on eBay: Yongnuo’s Nikon YN-565EX costs around $170 in the US – that’s almost 50% less than the investment needed for Nikon’s mid-range flash SB-700 with a more or less comparable feature set.
Nikon users had to wait for a long time to see a new Yongnuo hit the markets. The latest model had still been the lower-powered Yongnuo YN-467 first introduced in 2009, and there were no news during the entire year of 2011, just until now.

Yongnuo Speedlite YN560-II Manual Flash (new upgraded ‘mark II’ version)
Big news: Expected for December release is the new, upgraded Yongnuo YN560-II flash!
The YN-560 mark II is the latest model of the super popular “strobist” flash YN560 (visit David Hobby’s website here). The flash was face-lifted in January of 2011 already, when Yongnuo added a metal flash foot as well as improved electronics and quality control.
What’s coming now in December of 2011 is an entirely new generation with the YN-560 II, and it will replace the current YN-560 that’s being phased out over time.

Nov 3, 2011: The new YN-468-II has been released and is available now for $102! Get it from the Yongnuo manufacturer store: YN-468 II, or read more about the new features on the YN-468-II page.
Until November 2011, the Yongnuo YN-468 was the latest addition to the Yongnuo 46-x flash lineup and their 6th model overall. Improvements in the new YN468-II model include:
- new battery compartment design
- improved optical slave sensor
- better AF assist (laser-based design of their YN-565)
- PC sync port
- metal flash foot (like all YN flashes since Jan 2011)
- potentially better button material
To learn more about the new flash go to the YN-468-II page. Also check the YN-468 in-depth review (now the “mark I” model).

Yongnuo YN-468II E-TTL Speedlite Flash “Mark 2″
Speedlights.net exclusive: the new flash unit YN-468 Mark II for Canon will be released during the month of November as a successor to the YN-468 speedlite flash!
Nov 3, 2011: The new YN-468-II has been released and is available now for $102! Get it from the manufacturer store: YN-468 II.
Improvements in this 2nd generation of this top-selling flashgun aim at the weak spots of the 1st gen model, a clear sign that the engineers at Yongnuo are paying attention to what their users are saying.

Yongnuo YN-565 EX Flash Review
Finally the new Yongnuo YN-565 EX has arrived in the Speedlights.net office! Buying a flash is a quick thing thanks to the internet. What’s very time consuming is the testing, reviewing, and the writing process itself.
Which is why I’ll do it differently this time – this review gets published now, and will be updated and completed over time so that you don’t have to wait forever before the whole text comes together.
Here’s the full review program – available parts as of now are linked from the table of contents:

Update from 8/22: The Yongnuo YN-565 for Canon is now available from the manufacturer store on eBay for $180 with free shipping as well as from other sellers!
8/22: YN-565 on amazon (I talked with the seller “cheaplights” and he ships from the US and offers 30 days own warranty).
8/22: My Yongnuo YN-565 is still on its way – it left HK on 8/15 according to the mail tracking information system but there was no further update so far; I hope it will arrive between Tuesday and Wednesday 8/24.
Yongnuo Compatibility with Canon DSLR
Yongnuo provides only partial compatibility information for their Canon ETTL speedlites. A lot of combinations are neither officially compatible nor incompatible – e.g. 600D with YN-465, Rebel T3 with YN-468, or 550D with YN467.
To help with transparency actual user reports are collected here and combined with official info in the table below. Pls understand there can’t be any warranty for the accuracy of information provided here.
Yongnuo News: YN460-II and YN560 Now With Metal Foot
The Yongnuo YN 460 Mark II design has been updated in one detail as reports indicate: YN-460 Mark II now comes with a metal foot!
Thank you very much speedlights.net reader Albert for reporting about the Yongnuo YN-460-II now shipping with metal base plate on the plastic foot! You can see a photo of it below.
For comparison, you can see here the now “old” flash foot design:
The Yongnuo 560 now also has a metal flash foot. Huge thanks to photographer j-pang for the comparison picture here:
Yongnuo YN468 vs 430EX II Canon Speedlite
Yongnuo 468 versus Canon’s 430EX II – how does the $100 flash (e.g. from eBay) hold up against the mid-range speedlite from Canon costing about > 2.5x?
Finally, a Canon speedlite 430EX II has joined the collection (I plan on doing much more Canon testing in 2011!), and a direct comparison of YN468 vs 430 EX II is the topic of this article. Both speedlites were tested with a Canon Rebel T1i (Canon 500D in Europe).
Yongnuo 560 Real World Guide Number Table
Flash guide number for the Yongnuo 560 was measured before. What’s new now is a full guide number table with the manufacturer specs versus the Speedlights.net test results – see here below; go for more information to the YN 560 review test results page.
Guide number tables for other models of camera flash can be found in the respective reviews, for example for Yongnuo 460 Mark II, Nikon SB-600, or Nissin Di622 Mark II. The new Nikon SB-700 will soon be added with full guide number test results, too.
